“Squatter’s Rights,” was created by Janel Randall, Master Photographer and Master Artist, of Saginaw, Texas. Janel took one look at the image of the pelican and knew she had to paint it. “I love the way it was sitting and I found a great image of a pole on a pier and combined the two of them,” she explains. Both images were extracted using Photoshop’s “select subject” option. Colors were selected from the bird and the pole and used to paint the background using the brush tool and mixer brush tool. “I wanted to give it a foggy look like it was waiting for the fog to lift with just patches of the water peaking through,” says Janel. The image won a trophy for “Best Artist Entry by a Master Artist” at the 2020 TPPA Image Competition.
