“Please Don’t Eat the Flowers” was created by Cindy Bowman of Grapevine, Texas. “Ennis, Texas, is one of my favorite places to photograph in the spring as the Bluebonnets are everywhere!” says Cindy.

“This particular Sunday was the first time I ever noticed a donkey near the barn. After watching the donkey wander around and finally face the road, I knew it was time to start photographing him. The second image was of a field of Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes and the third was a random sky with interesting elements.”

After culling through her images from Ennis, Cindy loved the image of the donkey but, to her, it had no real impact. Adding flowers improved the image but it still needed more. So she incorporated the random sky image to pick up the colors of the flowers and give the image a feeling of early evening. Texture was added for depth and a creative matte was used in the final presentation.

The images of the donkey and the flowers were taken with a hand-held Nikon D850. Images were edited in Lightroom Classic, Photoshop CC, and Nik Software. The image won a Distinguished Image Award at the 2020 TPPA Image Competition.
